What does the latest lockdown mean for your student accommodation move, and viewing properties?
The UK is in lockdown until at-least mid-February. The government are advising us to stay at home, work from home and go ahead with our studies, online.
A lot of people are confused and still wondering what the rules are on moving house in the middle of a pandemic, so we are here to clear some things up.
To keep it short, yes, you can still move house, our market remains open for all of you, and your safety is in our best interest.
People who are outside your household or support bubbles are being urged not to help you with your move, removal firms are classed as essential workers. Where moves are carried out, social distancing should be followed. Companies should ensure employees understand how to operate safely and communicate this to customers.
You can still view properties as long as both parties are following the national guidance on moving house, including social distancing, washing your hands, keeping the homes well ventilated and wearing face coverings.
Can I visit other areas to view a property during a lockdown?
Of course! If you need to leave your home and travel to a different area to carry out any activity that is involved in the process of moving house, you should continue.
Can I stay overnight?
If you are unable to return to your home on the same day then you can stay overnight.
Here is the relevant government guidance;
- Hotels, hostels and other such public accommodation can be used by people while moving home or who are unable to return to their main residence. There is no guarantee a particular hotel will be open to provide this service, so do check in advance. You must still ensure you stay only within your household and/or support bubble.
- Second homes and other private accommodation can be used by people while moving home or who are unable to return to their main residence. You must still ensure you stay only within your household and/or support bubble.
So you are allowed to move house and view properties during the lockdown as long as you are following Government guidance.
We still have some homes available for 2021/2022 so head on over to our website to find out more.
